HELLO AND WELCOME TO OUR LIVE BLOG!  Chelsea and Benfica tussle for a quarter-final place as the Club World Cup knockout stages continue. The expanded tournament has been beset with problem but the relative success of the South American sides has created some intriguing round of 16 encounters. Chelsea might have thought they were destined for a date with Bayern Munich when they suffered defeat to Flamengo but Benfica’s success against the Bundesliga winners instead meant they topped their group, setting up this clash in Charlotte. Benfica have plenty of experience within their ranks, including Angel Di Maria, who will return to boyhood club Rosario Central when the Portuguese side are knocked out of this tournament. TEAM NEWS: Chelsea Chelsea welcome back Cole Palmer and Pedro Neto to the starting side in forward areas, while Reece James, Levi Colwill and Marc Cucurella take their places in the back four. Enzo Fernandez looks to have been given a more advanced role. Chelsea XI to f...

  • Mikel Obi tears into three Chelsea stars after poor display vs Flamengo.   • He tells one to "look at himself" after his performance in the game.   Chelsea legend Mikel Obi has slammed three first-team Chelsea players following the Blues’ 3-1 defeat to Flamengo. The former Nigerian international did not hold back in his post-match reaction after Chelsea’s disappointing performance in Philadelphia.   The Blues lost 3-1 to a relentless Flamengo side after Pedro Neto scored the opener. Nicolas Jackson picked up a red card in the game, stirring up anger among the Chelsea fanbase.  Apart from Nicolas Jackson,  two other Chelsea stars did not impress former Blues midfielder, Mikel Obi.  The club legend was on punditry duty for the Chelsea game. He told DAZN that what Jackson did was ‘stupid’, and cost his team in a game where a comeback was still a possibility:  “Unbelievable. Stupid, stupid, stupid mistake. I don’t know what is going...

The Blues take on the Brazilian club in their second group game, having got their campaign up and running on Monday night with a 2-0 win over LAFC. "I'm frustrated with him!" Mikel Obi wants Chelsea star to be sold now after what he did in 2-0 win over Los Angeles F.C.

Chelsea Legend John Obi Mikel has criticized one Chelsea star following poor performance against Los Angeles F.C.   Chelsea took on Los Angeles FC in the Club World Cup, winning the game 2-0 after goals from Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernandez. Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer pleased Mikel with their displays, but the former midfielder was not happy with one of their teammates. Next up for Chelsea in the competition is a tie against Brazilian side Flamengo which will take place on Friday. Neto had a good game for Chelsea after netting at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, but Noni Madueke could not make the same kind of impact as his teammate on the opposite flank. Not impressed with what he saw in the first half, Mikel gave a damning assessment of the 23-year-old during the break. Speaking on DAZN, whose coverage of the Club World Cup was broadcasted by Channel 5 (16/06/2025 at 20:55), the Chelsea legend said: “That’s what I said before the game. We need more from Neto and Madueke. M...

Liam Delap sends clear warning message to Nicolas Jackson over striker position after Chelsea debut.

Image
Liam Delap has issued a clear warning to Nicolas Jackson over the striker role at Chelsea.   Liam Delap was on the assist sheet for the Blues in their 2-0 win over American outfit Los Angeles F.C on Monday evening. The Englishman assisted Enzo Fernandez's goal in the 80th minute.  Delap is not going to make things easy for Jackson, with the Englishman already making it clear that he is going to thrive off the competition. Speaking to DAZN after the LAFC game, he said:  “I think it’s always healthy to have competition. It’s football and this is an incredible club, so it’s always going to be hard. But I think you’ve got to thrive off the competition.” Last season, Jackson did not have too much competition, with 19-year-old Marc Guiu being the only other recognised centre-forward in Chelsea’s squad. The 2025/26 campaign will be a different story, however, following the arrival of Delap. And Maresca has admitted that he is intrigued to see how his first-choice str...
