Two saves from Jorgensen that kept Chelsea in the game vs Southampton.
Filip Jorgensen made two crucial saves against the Saints last night that kept the Blues in the game.
The Chelsea stopper made a blunder in the Blues' 2-1 win against Aston Villa and has seemingly bounced back after putting up a decent performance against Southampton.
At one point, it looked like it was going to be a very uncomfortable night for the 22-year-old. Chelsea fans were not happy when they saw Jorgensen taking his time on the ball.
But Maresca has made it clear that he wants his shot-stopper to find a pass instead of just going long.
Had Jorgensen caved into pressure from the Stamford Bridge crowd, he would have been in big trouble.
Maresca did not want the Denmark U21 international to be direct and threatened to take him off if he started playing long balls.
After the game, the Chelsea manager told reporters: “My message to Filip was if you play a long ball, I will change you, I am very happy. It is difficult for all the keepers [getting jeered] but they just need to follow the plan.”
Overall, Jorgensen put in a decent performance, making one very good save in the first half.
According to Sofascore, he made two saves in total and prevented 0.66 goals. With Chelsea’s next game in the Premier League being against Leicester City at home, that could be a good opportunity for the former Villarreal man to earn another clean sheet.
