Newcastle United vs Chelsea FC | FULL MATCH STREAM

Newcastle United take on Chelsea in a battle for Champions League qualification at St James’ Park this afternoon.

Both sides, who sit fourth and fifth in the Premier League table heading into today’s game, have 63 points each and just three fixtures remaining.

Aston Villa, sixth, have the same total – having played an extra match – after their 1-0 win at Bournemouth on Saturday as the top-five race heats up.

It is normally the case that only the top four qualify for the Champions League but UEFA has handed English clubs an extra spot for this season.

Chelsea beat Newcastle 2-1 in the reverse fixture at Stamford Bridge but Eddie Howe’s knocked the Blues out the Carabao Cup with a 2-0 home win.

It looks set to be another intriguing showdown today and our LIVE blog will bring you all the match build-up, confirmed team news, starting XIs, goal updates and minute-by-minute coverage.


Eddie Howe has just spoken to TNT Sports about his Newcastle line-up.

‘We’ve got to find the right balance today,’ the Newcastle boss said.

‘It was a difficult one this week, losing Kieran [Trippier] and [Joe] Willock, two big players for us. It meant readjustment because their qualities you can’t find again.

‘But we’ve bringing in top players today. [Sven] Botman and [Anthony] Gordon they’ve massive – and have been historically massive – players for us. Hopefully we deliver a good performance.’


Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon is his making his first start in the Premier League since February.

There’s also a rare start for Sven Botman who is named in Newcastle XI for the first time since January in the top-flight.


Enzo Maresca has decided to stick with the same Chelsea XI who beat Premier League champions Liverpool 3-1 last time out in the top-flight.

Moises Caicedo is playing at right-back for the Blues with captain Reece James on the bench.

Liam Delap sends clear warning message to Nicolas Jackson over striker position after Chelsea debut.

  Liam Delap has issued a clear warning to Nicolas Jackson over the striker role at Chelsea.   Liam Delap was on the assist sheet for the Blues in their 2-0 win over American outfit Los Angeles F.C on Monday evening. The Englishman assisted Enzo Fernandez's goal in the 80th minute.  Delap is not going to make things easy for Jackson, with the Englishman already making it clear that he is going to thrive off the competition. Speaking to DAZN after the LAFC game, he said:  “I think it’s always healthy to have competition. It’s football and this is an incredible club, so it’s always going to be hard. But I think you’ve got to thrive off the competition.” Last season, Jackson did not have too much competition, with 19-year-old Marc Guiu being the only other recognised centre-forward in Chelsea’s squad.
