Chelsea dealt new injury worry ahead of Carabao Cup semifinal vs Arsenal.
• One player could miss the clash against Arsenal with injury concerns.
Chelsea have been handed a fresh injury concern after Jamie Gittens limped off during their comeback over West Ham.
Gittens started Saturday’s London derby as Liam Rosenior opted to rotate his squad, making seven changes from the side that defeated Napoli in the Champions League earlier in the week.
However, the winger’s outing at Stamford Bridge was cut short just before the half-hour mark.
Gittens received treatment from Chelsea’s medical team before walking gingerly toward the dugout after being substituted for Pedro Neto.
There has been no official update yet on the severity of the injury involving the 21-year-old, though he is expected to be doubtful for Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup semi-final second leg away at Arsenal.
It marks the second time in a week that Gittens has been substituted early. However, his withdrawal against Napoli — after replacing Andrey Santos on the hour mark — was a tactical move aimed at helping Chelsea protect their lead.
“I thought Jamie Gittens came on and made a huge difference,” Rosenior explained.
“I had to take him off at the end. Big [Romelu] Lukaku was on. I needed an extra defender on the pitch in that moment.”
Liam Rosenior will hold his pre-Arsenal press conference today and hopefully, will update on Gittens.
