Liam Rosenior confirms Chelsea have suffered triple injury set backs and return dates after Arsenal clash.
Chelsea now have triple injury concerns ahead of Wolves clash.
Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior has confirmed that captain Reece James and winger Pedro Neto missed the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg due to injury.
Reports emerged after the match that both players failed late fitness tests. Speaking following the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal, Rosenior confirmed their status:
“Pedro and Reece have small knocks. They were just in too much pain for tonight.”
With the Blues set to face Wolves on Saturday, both James and Neto are now in a race against time to recover ahead of the trip to Molineux.
Rosenior described the captain’s issue as a “small” knock, which should come as a relief to supporters given James’ well-documented injury history. However, it is worth noting that the right-back has remained available for the majority of fixtures this season.
James did miss the FA Cup third-round tie against Charlton Athletic, as well as the first leg of the semi-final against Arsenal due to a hip problem. Aside from those absences, he has only missed one other matchday squad — Tuesday evening’s clash — highlighting how well the 26-year-old has managed his fitness throughout the campaign.
Meanwhile, Rosenior had already confirmed before the Arsenal encounter that Jamie Gittens’ hamstring injury is still being assessed, leaving Chelsea dealing with a growing injury list.
Still sidelined with injury concerns are Tosin Adarabioyo (hamstring) and Romeo Lavia (fitness), who are reportedly closest to returning to action, alongside Filip Jorgensen. Dario Essugo is expected to remain out until March. Levi Colwill is also progressing well in his rehabilitation from an ACL injury, with Rosenior even suggesting the defender
